Weekend full of ups and downs

29.04.2012

Petr Fulín and his team felt like on a roller coaster or other extreme fairground attraction during the second ETCC round at Slovakiaring.

Petr drove a great time in the Test 1 first followed by the planned engine change for one that was ready for the race, but in the Test 2 engine was overheating. Therefore the team decided to not take a part in the free practice and got up to the qualifying. Peter did only one fast lap and although he was slightly slowed by another car on the track and it was enough only for third place, he decided to save a set of new tires for the race. This proved to be the right choice, because BMW 320si with starting number 2 has been pushed back to the end of the grid by the steward’s decision. The reason? Stewards have somehow forgotten to pass the protocol about the part of gearbox has been changed...

Petr Fulín started to the Race 1 with the rolling start from very last place, but was able to quickly move forward, in lap 3 he was sixth and after a great run he finished third and clinch his first ETCC podium. In Race 2 Petr took the advantage of great traction his rear-wheel drive BMW, after the start from sixth place he already got the lead on lap 2 and kept it in his hands till the end! Petr shares third place in the standings after two rounds only eight points behind the championship leader Swiss Peter Rikli.

"First of all I want to thank the whole team, guys did a great job changing the engine several times, did not sleep much and it my big thank you belongs to them. Likewise, I want to thank all our partners, we can not compete in the ETCC without them. I am very satisfied with the result, although did not come easily. But I take it as a kind of satisfaction for what stewards did with us. We duly handed exchange protocol to Slovak part of the stewards, but they have not hand over it in time so that administrative error cause we were hardly relegated to the end of Race 1 grid. The problem was not in that part, but in the late protocol delivery. I really do not like also the proposition changed during the weekend, the number of tires, etc."

"In the Race 1 I knew that slower cars will be easy prey, but we had to go carefully and quickly to stay in touch with the leaders. At the end it was second place in S2000 class! Race 2 we won and because Fernando Monje had a bad luck this time, the championship is very open with two more rounds to come. "

Josef KŘENEK

"Weekend start far from happy way, we had engine problems, but the team held together and eventually it turned out well. Petr drove great! Our goal was to be in Top 8 in Race 1 because of reverse grid for the Race 2, but Petr was able to finish third and he won Race 2! Big thank you to the mechanics, the whole team worked as one man! I am really very happy! "
