First test shows the potential

27.02.2012

Only few days separate Petr Fulín from his debut in ETCC at famous Monza circuit. Autodromo Nazionale di Monza became the place of his first and only real test before the season. Besides the fact that Petr had to get familiar with his new, completely rebuild BMW 320si, it was for the first time when newly established team of engineers and mechanics from VEKRA Racing Team and Křenek Motorsport worked together. Despite all these premieres test brought positive results and day at Monza was a step in the right direction.

Petr Fulín did a 58 laps, tried a few different set-ups and differences in the car behaviour on new and used tires. Thanks to support of Wiechers Sport engineer the data from Stefano D’Aste’s car were available and the comparison wasn’t bad at all for Petr. Crew led by experienced Josef Křenek learned to handle the car and understand car’s reaction on set-up changes. Even they had chance to practice broken half shaft exchange. The team drove home with good feeling and Petr’s lap times promise that the Czech Team will not only a number in ETCC.

Petr FULÍN

„ Firstly I have to thank to my guys for rebuilding the car during the winter. Everything worked well right from the beginning, nothing fell out from the car, no fluid leaked etc. After few installation laps I did a some quick laps and I think we did a lot of work. Even lap times show we are quite familiar with the car now. The most positive thing is that we solved the problem with H-pattern gearshifting. I was really afraid about it. It didn’t work so well during the winter test at Most circuit. But then in the garage we found a problem with ignition disconnection, it was the reason. Here it works very well from the very first moment and I found why BMW Motorsport took this gearbox. It’s as quick as sequential gearbox and you are allowed to run the car 30 kgs lighter. Now I’m pretty sure there will be absolutely no problem with H-pattern.”

Josef KŘENEK

„ In a respect that the car was completely rebuild, it was the first run, I think we can be satisfied. Everything worked well, mechanics, driver, it was very positive day. It’s hard to judge how good is our preparation for the first race. I have to say we gain maximum from the test, now we understand the car much more, we understand the car’s behaviour and his reaction on set up changes, we run for the first time on Yokohama tires etc. So, we got much more familiar with the car, the result is better then I expected and we are on a right way to be in front.”
