Petr Fulín grabbed the first row in debut qualifying

10.03.2012

Sadly looked the view on the maximum speed tables from free practice, in which Petr's BMW 320si lost some 8 kph to diesel powered SEAT Leon at the end of every sector. Czech team’s disappointment was even greater in afternoon qualifying.

Actually only a few minutes before beginning was informed about handicap for rear wheel drive car and weight was sealed just three minutes before the opening of the pit lane. The mechanics were not able to reset the car with regard to the individual wheel load, etc. Nevertheless, Peter was able to run very similar lap times as in the morning with a car that was a full 50 kg lighter!

Petr FULÍN

"We had the first qualification, time could be better if I had more luck on the track. Even so, it is a success, for sure. Car worked great, I have to thank the mechanics, who changed the engine last night. The whole team still learning, there are small issues, but it is natural. In the current situation we no chance to beat diesel SEAT. Tomorrow I would like to keep second place, but I'll be ready to take every offered opportunity to win."

Josef KŘENEK

"If someone told us that in the first qualification we will be on second place, I could not believe it. In terms of position and lap times that could be better, but we compete against incomparable vehicle. We gave the car weights at the last minute! The weight differences distinguish only front and rear wheel drive, but they do not reflect whether you have gasoline or diesel engine and transmission with sequential gearbox and the H-pattern gearbox, and it does not come to us completely fair. We had 50 kg more than yesterday. If we had known, we have prepared for the situation, already tested with weights, etc. However, I’m happy that the car works well and I think, despite all the weight handicaps, we have a chance to win the second tomorrow’s race."
